The likely reason Chukwuemeka won’t sign a new deal

Carney Chukwuemeka looked to have a bright future at Aston Villa after being regarded as the best English player in his age group to being the club’s third-youngest debutant in the Premier League, but Birmingham Live say the 18-year-old could be on his way out of Villa as he’s refusing to sign a new deal until he gets assurances over playing time.

Chukwuemeka has scored 10 goals with eight assists from 26 games for the U18s, scored three goals with five assists from 29 games for the U23s and has made one assist from 15 games for the first-team. The England U19 international has only started twice at senior level, however, which might be why he’s frustrated.

Jacob Ramsey has arguably been Villa’s best player this season, flourishing from getting more playing time at the age of 20, so Chukwuemeka might question why he doesn’t get the same opportunities. Steven Gerrard recently said of the 18-year-old: “In training he’s been fantastic. If these young kids outtrain people who are older, I’ll put them on.”

Sporadic cameo appearances aren’t going to placate the midfielder, however. And with an 18-year-old Jude Bellingham becoming a regular at Borussia Dortmund, it’s easy to see why Chukwuemeka won’t commit his future amid interest from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Juventus.

Chukwuemeka has one year remaining on his deal, giving Villa 12 months to change his mind. Villa won’t be bullied into giving him more minutes than they feel he deserves, however.
