Read Aston Villa recently suggested Kortney Hause’s future at Aston Villa is uncertain following the arrival of Boubacar Kamara from Olympique Marseille, but the same applies to Morgan Sanson – his former club teammate with whom he’s played in 81 games with.

The 27-year-old was an unused substitute for a fifth consecutive Premier League game as Villa wrapped up the season with a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City, which may be his last involvement with the club.

Sanson has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, amassing 439 minutes of football across the board. He’s found himself behind Marvelous Nakamba, John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey, but Tim Iroegbunam and Carney Chukwuemeka are being preferred over Sanson now.

Kamara can operate in defence and midfield, so his move to Villa is likely to be at his fellow Frenchman’s expense – Sanson has been benched 24 times in 38 Premier League games this season, so the writing has been on the wall all campaign.

Steven Gerrard either isn’t happy with Sanson’s performances on the training ground or he doesn’t believe he’s good enough to play in the Premier League. It comes with some irony that a Marseille player could be replacing a former one next season.
