Agbonlahor says Keinan Davis could still join Forest

Keinan Davis looked on his way out of Aston Villa this summer when Nottingham Forest were considering turning his loan move permanent, but the newly-promoted Premier League outfit opted against signing the 24-year-old Villa striker and brought in Taiwo Awoniyi for a club-record fee instead.

That move suggested Forest’s pursuit of Davis was dead in the water, but Gabriel Agbonlahor believes there’s still a chance he makes the switch. Davis has two years left on his deal, so another loan move may be possible. Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “I don’t think Villa will struggle to offload Davis.

“We don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, maybe Nottingham Forest do want to still bring him in. They’ve brought in a record signing, but Davis would be a great addition as well.

“It’s a tough one and maybe at the end of the day, it comes down to Davis. Does he have more chance of playing Premier League football with Nottingham Forest than he does at Aston Villa?”

Davis’ stock has risen after a successful loan spell at Forest. He scored five goals with two assists from 18 Championship games and helped them achieve promotion to the top-flight. The Reds didn’t trust him enough to spent £15m on, however.

The 24-year-old does have a decision to make this summer, but it’s a no-brainer. Davis finds himself behind Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings in the pecking order, so it’s hard to see him getting much playing time under Steven Gerrard.

With six goals and seven assists from 86 games at Villa (2015 – present), Davis hasn’t exactly proven he’s capable and prolific of being a regular Premier League striker either.

But Villa were requesting £15m for the 24-year-old, so they may struggle to get many suitors.
