- Matty Cash has praised the Aston Villa faithful ahead of their match with Tottenham this evening
- Villa can all but confirm Champions League qualification with a win
Matty Cash has been full of praise for Aston Villa supporters ahead of their clash with Tottenham this evening. With some crucial games to go, including this one, the Polish international is looking forward to the “amazing” atmosphere Villa Park creates.
Despite a disappointing result against Nottingham Forest on Thursday, Villa will be hoping to build some momentum heading into the second leg.
A win tonight would be massive for their Champions League hopes, and will also take the pressure off their final three games in the Premier League.
They face a Tottenham side who got their first league win of 2026 last weekend against Wolves. With that victory, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are now two points adrift from safety.
Cash on the importance of home games in a crucial end to the season
In a pre-match interview with TNT Sports, Cash discussed the upcoming match, and the importance of an “amazing” home atmosphere.
“Every game you go into, especially this time of the season, you want to try and get as many points as you can to get into the top four, five. We’re facing a team that are the other side of the table trying to get results, so it will be a good battle.
“Today if you get three points, you’re close to get Champions League. On Thursday we’ve got an opportunity to get to the final of a European competition. These are games you want to play.
“If you look back at the start of the season, we started really poorly. Everyone was questioning us, and we showed what we’re capable of turning poor results into good results.
“We know how good we are at home as well. Villa Park is an amazing place to play; atmosphere is always good, so hopefully today it can be like that.
With the finish line in sight, the squad knows that a disciplined performance tonight could effectively confirm their place in the Champions League. For the fans, it is a night to be vocal; for the players, it is a night to prove that they can perform under pressure. A win is vital, and could set up an incredible week for the Villans.
