- Gabriel Sara remains a target for Aston Villa
- Galatasaray are reportedly open to a sale for €25-35 million
- Villa face competition from Napoli
Aston Villa continue to pursue Galatasaray’s Gabriel Sara this summer, with the Turkish club reportedly now open to a sale. A midfielder is not a priority this window, but Unai Emery does have a list of targets.
The mid-season market landscape is shifting rapidly as Unai Emery aims to strengthen his squad for a demanding domestic and European push.
According to the latest reports emerging from Turkey, Villa have renewed their focus on a high-profile midfield target. Italian and Turkish media indicate that the Villans hold a significant desire to secure the signature of Galatasaray’s Brazilian star, Gabriel Sara.
The 26-year-old has been a revelation since moving to Istanbul, but a sudden shift in his club’s financial strategy has unexpectedly opened the transfer door.
Reports from A Spor and Hürriyet claim that the Turkish champions are actively planning a summer sale to generate funds for their own pursuit of Juventus midfielder Khéphren Thuram.
Because of this structural reshape, Galatasaray have established a concrete evaluation price tag between €25-35 million (£22-30 million), marking a distinct stance that could trigger immediate action from English suitors.

Villa has the edge over European competition
This development represents a major escalation in the ongoing saga surrounding Gabriel Sara. Villa scouts have long admired the dynamic South American, having travelled to Turkey months ago to conduct a thorough analysis of his tactical fit.
While Villa previously cooled their interest when Tottenham and Brighton threatened to hijack negotiations earlier in the spring, the situation has dramatically altered.
Villa are not alone in this pursuit, however, as Serie A giants Napoli have formally entered the race and are prepared to challenge the English side directly.
Despite the Italian threat, the Premier League club reportedly retains a significant edge as the player has previously responded positively to Emery’s project and is understood to favour a return to English football.
Other midfield pursuits
Sara isn’t the only name Villa are targeting. Emery remains keen on adding more quality to his squad depth, a plan highlighted by the club’s parallel move for Almería defensive anchor Dion Lopy.
Recent reports reveal that Villa submitted a formal €17 million opening proposal for the 24-year-old Senegal international, as they push hard to bridge the minor €3 million gap to Almería’s €20 million valuation.
However, it seems very unlikely Villa would move for both Sara and Lopy, unless two of their current midfielders are heading out the door. Rumours have linked Ross Barkley and Lamare Bogarde with potential exits, although the club has reportedly offered the latter a new contract.

Navigating financial sustainability rules remains a priority, meaning any incoming business relies heavily on outgoings, but Sara represents a market opportunity given his ability to play as a No 6, 8 or 10.
If the hierarchy can fend off Napoli and finalise a deal, they will secure a robust, Champions League-tested star uniquely engineered to thrive under Emery’s leadership.
