Rogers makes feelings clear on Arsenal transfer talk. “95% of it is just noise”

Morgan Rogers has responded to Arsenal transfer speculation insisting the noise will not distract him from England’s World Cup campaign.

  • Rogers told the Rest is Football podcast “95% of it is just noise. You have to use it as a positive”
  • The Athletic report Rogers is not pushing for a move, but there is “acceptance” that now could be the right time
  • Villa could demand up to £100m pointing to the same fee agreed for Grealish’s City move in 2021
  • Emery confirmed Rogers’ focus. “He is here with us, being consistent and demanding”

“95% of it is just noise” Rogers speaks

Morgan Rogers has delivered his most considered and composed response yet to the transfer speculation that has followed him throughout the summer. Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast ahead of England’s World Cup campaign, the 23-year-old acknowledged the noise while refusing to be consumed by it.

“I think the first time it ever happened, you are in an uncomfortable spot, not realising that people have so much interest in you,” Rogers admitted. “But as you get older and gain experience along the way, you know that comes with it. Ninety-five per cent of it is just noise. You hear it, of course you do, you can’t help it. But you have got to use it as a positive. You have got to get on with your game and just focus.”

Emery praised that specific framing of acknowledging the speculation while refusing to be destabilised by it, reflecting exactly the maturity within the Aston Villa camp that confirms Rogers’ focus. The Europa League Player of the Season is not a player distracted by his own market value. He is a player using that value as additional motivation; a pattern entirely consistent with everything he has demonstrated throughout the season.

One of the key detail. Acceptance without a push

The most significant piece of reporting in this story comes from The Athletic whose sources confirm Rogers is not actively pushing for a move away from Villa Park. However, and this is the crucial qualifier, people say that now could be the right time for a fresh challenge.

That specific nuance is important. Not pushing but accepting. It is the position of a player who is happy at Villa Park, values what Emery and the club have given him, but understands that the opportunities being presented: Arsenal, Manchester United, PSG represent a level of career progression that is genuinely difficult to decline indefinitely.

His history reinforces the pattern. Last summer, they linked Rogers with moves. Emery personally asked him to stay for one more season. He accepted. That single decision delivered a Europa League winner’s medal, the Player of the Season award, and a World Cup squad place. The question now is whether the same logic applies for a second consecutive summer or whether the circumstances have finally changed enough to make a departure inevitable.

Villa’s valuation. The Grealish benchmark

Villa’s negotiating position has been clearly and deliberately established. The club are pointing to the £100m Jack Grealish fee, agreed when City activated his release clause in 2021, as the benchmark for Rogers’ valuation. That specific comparison is not coincidental. Both players are homegrown English attacking midfielders who transformed Villa’s fortunes before attracting the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

The Middlesbrough sell-on clause adds further complexity. Boro hold a 20% sell-on for anything above the initial £8m paid, meaning a £100m sale would trigger a £16.8m payment to the Championship club. That financial mechanism actually strengthens Villa’s negotiating position rather than weakening it, creating a clear and well-documented price point that any buying club must accept in full.

Emery’s view. “He is consistent and demanding”

Emery’s public position on Rogers has been measured and entirely consistent. “He is focused. He is here with us for two years, being consistent and demanding, therefore, he knows how he is getting his progress and how the team needs him.” That specific acknowledgement of Rogers’ versatility, left wing, number ten, second striker, captures exactly why he is so difficult to replace within Emery’s system.

The manager who asked him to stay last summer will ask the same question again this summer. Whether the answer changes depends on whether Arsenal, United or another club meets Villa’s £100m valuation and whether Rogers ultimately decides the time has come.

Rogers is not pushing to leave. He is not blocking a move either. The decision rests with the clubs and the fee. Villa have set the price at £100m. Arsenal are preparing an opening bid far below that. The gap between those two numbers is where this summer’s most significant transfer story will be decided. Until then, Rogers is focused, England are training, and the World Cup beckons.
