Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Proctor has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 19-year-old will compete with Will Brook for a starting place at Croud Meadow as he begins his first full spell in senior football.
Proctor has progressed through Villa’s academy and was part of the sides which won the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League title.
He has also represented England at every age group from under-16 to under-20 level.
Shrewsbury confirmed Proctor’s arrival from Aston Villa, describing him as one of England’s brightest young goalkeeping prospects.
Proctor handed important senior opportunity
The move gives Proctor the opportunity to play regularly in a competitive first-team environment.
Shrewsbury have been prevented from paying transfer fees until September, but they remain able to complete loan and free-agent signings. Proctor becomes their eighth addition of the summer and the second loan arrival after Luton Town striker Joe Gbode.
Villa have several young goalkeepers competing for development opportunities, making a temporary move the logical next step for Proctor.
As Read Aston Villa previously examined, the teenager is regarded as one of Bodymoor Heath’s most promising academy players and had attracted interest from elsewhere.
Shrewsbury should provide a clearer pathway towards senior minutes than Proctor would currently receive at Villa Park.
