Aston Villa have held talks over a possible move for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho as Unai Emery searches for a replacement for Morgan Rogers.
Villa are preparing to receive £117million from Rogers’ British-record move to Stamford Bridge. The club have now explored whether Garnacho could move in the opposite direction.
talkSPORT reports that Chelsea have offered Villa the opportunity to sign Garnacho and Nicolas Jackson. The Blues are believed to value the Argentine winger at around £42million.
However, Garnacho currently prefers a move to Roma. The Serie A club remain in talks with Chelsea, but no agreement has been reached over the structure of a transfer.
Aston Villa Garnacho transfer talks remain early
Villa want to add a quick attacker capable of running beyond opposition defences. Garnacho can operate from the left and would offer the direct pace lost through Rogers’ departure.
The 22-year-old is available after struggling to establish himself as a regular starter during his first season at Chelsea. A permanent proposal could appeal to the Blues, who are attempting to reduce Xabi Alonso’s attacking squad.
Villa have also considered Crysencio Summerville. ReadAstonVilla previously reported that the club could hijack Roma’s £40million move for the West Ham winger.
Summerville is closing in on his own move to Roma, while Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye has also appeared on Villa’s shortlist.
Garnacho’s preference gives Roma an advantage, but Villa can offer Champions League football and a clear route into Emery’s starting side.
No formal Villa bid has been reported. The discussions confirm the club are moving quickly to identify a high-profile attacking replacement after sanctioning Rogers’ departure.
