Aston Villa have officially confirmed Morgan Rogers has completed his permanent transfer to Chelsea in a reported £117million deal.
Rogers leaves Villa Park after two-and-a-half seasons, having developed from a Championship prospect into an England international under Unai Emery.
Villa praised the 23-year-old’s “impeccable behaviour and commitment” and said he leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club.
The midfielder also played a central role in last season’s Europa League triumph. He scored Villa’s third goal in the final as Emery’s side ended the club’s long wait for a major trophy.

Rogers joined Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for a package worth up to £15million. His reported £117million sale therefore represents an exceptional return for the club.

Chelsea have confirmed Rogers has signed a contract running until 2033. The forward described Chelsea as the “biggest club in London” and highlighted Xabi Alonso’s project as a major reason behind his move. Chelsea’s official announcement also noted that Rogers contributed to 40 Premier League goals during his Villa career.
Villa now face the challenge of replacing his goals, physical power and versatility. Johan Manzambi has already arrived, while the club have submitted an official bid for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho.
The financial return strengthens Villa’s summer position, but Rogers leaves as one of the defining players of Emery’s successful rebuild.
