Alejandro Garnacho has appeared to aim a subtle dig at Chelsea after completing his move to Aston Villa.
The winger highlighted the opportunity to play Champions League football and rediscover his confidence under Unai Emery when explaining his decision to leave Stamford Bridge.
Villa signed Garnacho on an initial season-long loan, with the move expected to become permanent if agreed conditions are met.
The 22-year-old endured an inconsistent campaign at Chelsea and struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. He has now set his sights on recovering the form he displayed during his early years at Manchester United.

“I think it’s also important to play European competitions,” Garnacho told Aston Villa’s official website.
“I was looking for a club to get confidence and try to be the player that I was years ago, from my first years at Manchester United.”
Garnacho added that playing in the Champions League influenced his decision. His comments will inevitably be interpreted as a pointed reference to Chelsea, who finished 10th last season and failed to qualify for European competition.
The Argentina international made 43 appearances and scored eight goals during his only season at Stamford Bridge. However, he started just 14 Premier League matches and was allowed to leave following Xabi Alonso’s arrival.
Emery’s personal involvement also proved decisive. Garnacho said the Villa manager gave him confidence during their conversations and convinced him that Villa Park offered the correct platform.
