Leon Bailey’s Hull City transfer is expected to be completed shortly after owner Acun Ilıcalı provided a fresh update on the Aston Villa winger.
Bailey is set to join the newly promoted Premier League club permanently and sign a long-term contract.
Ilıcalı has indicated that the transfer is moving towards completion, although neither Hull nor Villa have officially announced an agreement.
The 28-year-old remained in England after being left out of Villa’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.
Leon Bailey Hull City transfer nears completion
Hull have been negotiating with Villa throughout July after Bailey made it clear that he wanted to remain in the Premier League.
The Tigers initially explored a loan, but Villa preferred a permanent departure. Reports placed their valuation between £12million and £20million.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Hull were edging closer to completing the move, as covered in ReadAstonVilla’s latest Bailey transfer update.
Bailey joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for around £30million in 2021. His strongest campaign came in 2023/24, when he recorded 10 goals and nine assists as Unai Emery’s side qualified for the Champions League.
However, injuries disrupted his progress before an unsuccessful loan spell with Roma. Bailey returned to Villa during the second half of last season but started only three league matches.
His departure would create further space in Emery’s attacking squad. Alejandro Garnacho has already arrived, while Villa are considering another winger before the transfer window closes.
Hull would offer Bailey regular Premier League football and an opportunity to rebuild his career.
The Leon Bailey Hull City transfer is not official, but Ilıcalı’s update suggests the winger’s five-year Villa career is approaching its conclusion.
