Unai Emery prepares for major Aston Villa departure

A new Emiliano Martinez transfer offer could reportedly be accepted as Aston Villa prepare for the goalkeeper’s possible departure.

Former Villa scout Mick Brown claims Unai Emery’s side have opened the door to a summer sale after Martinez made his desire for a new challenge clear.

“If a new offer comes in, I expect it will be accepted,” Brown told Football Insider.

However, no fresh bid has been confirmed and Brown was offering his assessment rather than communicating an official club decision.

Emiliano Martinez transfer stance could be changing

Juventus remain the strongest reported suitors after Luciano Spalletti publicly claimed Martinez wants to change clubs.

The Italian side have already held discussions with the player’s representatives, but they remain apart from Villa over the fee.

Villa reportedly value the 33-year-old between €10million and €15million. Juventus have been reluctant to meet those demands despite identifying Martinez as a leading goalkeeper target.

The latest claim represents a potential change from Villa’s public position earlier in July. The club previously insisted Martinez would remain at Villa Park, while ReadAstonVilla reported that Juventus still needed to submit an acceptable offer.

Brown believes Villa want to resolve the situation before the season begins, allowing Emery sufficient time to recruit a replacement.

Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has appeared on Villa’s shortlist, although Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have also monitored the Japan international.

Losing Martinez would remove one of Villa’s most influential and experienced players during a summer of significant change.

A departure should therefore only be approved once Villa secure an adequate fee and identify a replacement capable of immediately becoming Emery’s first-choice goalkeeper.
