The Aston Villa Asia tour squad has received a significant lift after seven important players were spotted arriving with Unai Emery’s group in Jakarta.
Alejandro Garnacho, Pau Torres, Evann Guessand, Boubacar Kamara, Alysson, Tammy Abraham and captain John McGinn were all shown in footage from Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Brian Madjo and Ross Barkley also appeared as Villa began the most demanding stage of their pre-season preparations.
Aston Villa Asia tour squad strengthened by returns
The presence of Torres, Kamara, Alysson and Abraham is particularly encouraging as they continue building their fitness following recent injury problems.
Torres made his first appearance of pre-season during the 4-2 defeat against Real Sociedad. The centre-back completed 45 minutes after missing Villa’s opening two summer friendlies.
ReadAstonVilla’s match report also detailed another goal for Madjo before the squad travelled to Asia.
McGinn only returned to Bodymoor Heath earlier this week following his World Cup involvement. His arrival gives Emery another senior leader during a demanding run of three matches in six days.
Garnacho will use the tour to settle into his new surroundings after joining Villa from Chelsea. Guessand also has an opportunity to impress Emery following his loan spell at Crystal Palace last season.
According to Talk Villa, all seven players were among the travelling party spotted in Jakarta.
Villa face Indonesia All Stars on Saturday before travelling to Thailand to meet BG Pathum United on Tuesday. Their tour concludes against Bayern Munich in Hong Kong next Friday.
Emery will likely rotate heavily across the three matches as he attempts to improve fitness without placing unnecessary demands on players returning from injury or international duty.
