Aston Villa discuss move to re-sign Jack Grealish

Aston Villa have discussed bringing Jack Grealish back to Villa Park as Unai Emery looks to add further creativity to his squad.

The return is being considered five years after the winger completed his £100million move to Manchester City.

According to The Sun, Villa have discussed the possibility of re-signing their former captain and believe he could provide valuable depth in the wide areas.

The potential move comes as Villa prepare to sell Leon Bailey to Hull City, while Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans have already departed for Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

Jack Grealish Aston Villa return discussed

Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton and recorded two goals and six assists before a foot injury ended his campaign in January.

He has since returned to training but was left out of Manchester City’s pre-season tour as uncertainty continues around his future. Everton would also like to take the 30-year-old back, while Atletico Madrid and clubs in Saudi Arabia have shown interest.

Villa’s interest would make sense given the changes to Emery’s attack.

ReadAstonVilla highlighted on Friday that replacing Morgan Rogers remains one of the club’s biggest remaining summer priorities, with another creative forward required alongside new arrival Alejandro Garnacho.

Grealish would offer a very different option.

The England international came through Villa’s academy and made 213 senior appearances before joining City in 2021. A return would also give Emery another player with Champions League experience as Villa prepare to compete at that level again.

However, discussions over the idea do not mean a transfer is close.

There has been no reported bid or agreement with Manchester City, and Grealish has several other options.

For now, Villa have simply put a remarkable reunion back on the table.
