Aston Villa deal in doubt as Premier League club consider pulling out

Aston Villa’s attempts to sell Leon Bailey have suffered a setback, with Hull City now considering pulling out of negotiations.

The Leon Bailey transfer had appeared close last week, but the Premier League newcomers have yet to reach an agreement with Villa.

According to BirminghamLive, Hull are now weighing up whether to walk away from the deal completely. Bailey remains open to leaving Villa Park for a new opportunity.

Villa would also like to complete a permanent sale this summer.

Therefore, the latest development could create another transfer problem for Unai Emery.

Leon Bailey transfer stalls after Hull progress

Only a few days ago, the move appeared to be heading towards completion.

ReadAstonVilla reported on 30 July that Hull owner Acun Ilicali expected Bailey’s transfer to be completed within days. However, no agreement followed that update.

Bailey was also left out of Villa’s travelling squad for the Far East tour. That decision allowed him to remain behind and resolve his future.

Nevertheless, the Jamaica international is still a Villa player.

The 28-year-old started only three Premier League games last season. Overall, he made 19 appearances and scored once.

Villa now face a decision if Hull end their pursuit.

Bailey has only one year remaining on his contract. As a result, this summer represents an important opportunity to secure a permanent fee.

His departure would also create room for another attacking addition.

ReadAstonVilla reported on Sunday that Villa have discussed bringing Jack Grealish back to the club as Emery considers adding more creativity to his squad.

Therefore, a Bailey sale could prove important for more than simply reducing squad numbers.

For now, though, a transfer which appeared close has stalled.

Villa must either revive negotiations with Hull or find another buyer before the window closes.
