‘Big hope’ – Bayern Munich want Aston Villa transfer move

Joao Palhinha playing in the Premier League

Bayern Munich are hoping Aston Villa revive their interest in João Palhinha as the Bundesliga champions look to sell the Portugal international.

The latest update suggests Villa remain a possible destination, although Bayern are not particularly confident that a deal will be completed.

Palhinha returned to Germany this summer after Tottenham decided against signing him permanently following his season-long loan in north London.

The 31-year-old does not appear to feature prominently in Vincent Kompany’s plans. Bayern have made it clear that several players could leave before the transfer window closes.

Bayern hope for João Palhinha transfer offer

Christian Falk has told CF Bayern Insider that Bayern retain a “big hope” Aston Villa will make an offer for Palhinha.

However, Falk stressed that the German champions are not currently confident an agreement with Villa will materialise.

Bayern want to recoup a significant amount of the money invested in Palhinha, but the midfielder is prepared to stay if their valuation prevents him joining a club he wants to represent.

That stance gives Bayern a difficult decision as the window enters its final weeks.

Villa have explored a deal before. ReadAstonVilla reported last month that negotiations over Palhinha were continuing after claims of an imminent medical proved premature.

Unai Emery has already strengthened his midfield with João Gomes and Johan Manzambi following Youri Tielemans’ departure. However, Amadou Onana’s serious injury means another experienced option could still appeal.

Palhinha offers proven Premier League experience after his successful spell with Fulham and would add another specialist defensive midfielder to Emery’s squad.

For now, though, Villa have not made the offer Bayern are hoping to receive.

Falk described the situation as “all a bit quiet”, leaving Bayern waiting to discover whether Villa will revive a deal before the window closes.
