Jonathan Rowe to Aston Villa revived after John McGinn injury

Jonathan Rowe to Aston Villa is back on the agenda after the club reportedly began making fresh enquiries for the Bologna winger. John McGinn’s injury has prompted Villa to revisit their long-standing interest in the 23-year-old as Unai Emery assesses his attacking options before the transfer window closes.

Villa were linked with Rowe earlier in the summer before their interest cooled, but the situation has now changed.

Sport Witness reported on Friday that Aston Villa are once again making enquiries for Rowe, citing Corriere di Bologna and journalist Marco Vigarani.

The report claims McGinn’s injury has “alarmed” Villa and encouraged them to explore whether a deal for the former Norwich City winger could be revived.

Jonathan Rowe to Aston Villa could require €45m decision

Bologna are not under immediate pressure to sell Rowe and have already rejected a €35million proposal from Everton.

However, subsequent reports suggest an offer closer to €45m could force the Serie A club to reconsider their position.

Rowe’s representatives are also said to be exploring possible opportunities away from Bologna, although Villa have not yet progressed beyond enquiries.

The interest arrives as Emery continues reshaping his attacking options following Morgan Rogers’ £117m departure to Chelsea.

ReadAstonVilla has already looked at why Emi Buendia could take on greater responsibility following Rogers’ exit, but Villa may still want another player capable of carrying the ball and threatening from wide areas.

Rowe would provide a different profile.

He can operate from either flank, has already gained experience in both English and Italian football and remains only 23.

The next step will be whether Villa turn their renewed interest into a formal proposal.

For now, Jonathan Rowe to Aston Villa has returned as a live transfer possibility after several weeks in which the trail had gone quiet.
