Aston Villa wonderkid Brian Madjo smashes UEFA Super Cup record vs PSG

Brian Madjo has written his name into UEFA Super Cup history after scoring Aston Villa’s equaliser against Paris Saint-Germain in Salzburg.

The 17-year-old struck to make it 1-1 against the Champions League holders, becoming the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history on an extraordinary competitive debut for Villa.

Madjo was already making history simply by starting the final. At 17 years and 212 days, he became the youngest player on record to start a UEFA Super Cup final.

Few could have imagined a bigger stage for Madjo’s first competitive Aston Villa goal.

The teenager only received clearance to play official football for the club earlier this month after Villa won their appeal against FIFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Reuters reported that Villa successfully overturned the decision, having initially been prevented from registering the striker following his January move from Metz.

Villa paid around £10million to sign Madjo and the early evidence has already suggested why the club fought so hard to make him available.

He scored four times during pre-season before being handed a remarkable start against PSG by Unai Emery.

Now Madjo has delivered on the biggest stage of his young career.

Scoring an Aston Villa equaliser in a European final would have been memorable enough. Becoming the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history in the process makes it a moment that could follow Madjo throughout his career.

Villa’s teenage striker has announced himself in spectacular fashion.
