Aston Villa fall short against Arsenal
Villa had opportunities to take something from the game.
Emiliano Buendía struck the crossbar during the first half, while Nicolas Jackson showed encouraging signs after making his Aston Villa debut alongside Zion Suzuki.
Suzuki was one of Villa’s standout performers and made several important saves on his Premier League debut.
However, Arsenal eventually found the breakthrough through Saka before successfully protecting their narrow advantage.
Sky Sports’ free match highlights also show the decisive moments from the contest, including Saka’s winner.
The result means Villa have now opened the campaign with consecutive defeats.
Even more concerning is their attacking output. Emery’s side failed to register a shot on target for the second successive match, a problem we examine in our analysis of Villa’s alarming 24-year low.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have taken six points from their opening two matches as they begin the defence of their Premier League title. Arsenal’s official match report confirms Saka’s second-half goal proved decisive at Villa Park.
