Pedro Porro is set to return to Tottenham’s squad against Aston Villa on Saturday after missing two matches with a muscular problem.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the defender’s expected availability following Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Liverpool, according to the Evening Standard’s report carried by Yahoo Sports.
The update gives Unai Emery another factor to consider before Villa’s lunchtime trip to north London.
Porro’s availability would restore an option at right-back for Tottenham. A return to the squad does not, however, confirm that he will start.
Pedro Porro return adds to Tottenham’s options
Spurs enter the fixture after losing 3-1 at Anfield and remain without a Premier League win this season.
De Zerbi has backed his players to improve, but the immediate task is selecting a team capable of changing those results.
For Villa, the practical consequence is preparing for Porro’s possible involvement rather than assuming Tottenham will retain the same defensive personnel.
Emery’s own selection follows a more encouraging cup result. Tammy Abraham scored twice in Villa’s 3-1 victory at Coventry City, with Ross Barkley also on target.
Villa have their own fitness question
Marco Bizot’s availability requires clarification after the goalkeeper came off at half-time against Coventry.
Our Bizot injury update covers the reported back problem that prompted Zion Suzuki’s introduction.
Porro’s expected return concerns Tottenham’s squad options; Villa’s final preparations will also depend on their own available players.
Saturday’s match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium kicks off at 12:30 BST. Our Aston Villa TV guide has the viewing information.
