Aston Villa have reportedly stepped up talks over a new contract for Emi Buendia.
The 29-year-old’s current deal expires in 2027, making his future an increasingly important issue for the club after his excellent start to the season.
Jacob Tanswell has reported that Buendia is among several Villa players to move towards more advanced discussions following initial exploratory conversations.
The situation was also revisited in the Birmingham Mail’s latest Aston Villa Q&A.
Buendia strengthens Aston Villa case
Buendia has done his negotiating position no harm on the pitch.
He scored during Villa’s Champions League victory over Club Brugge before finding the net again in the 3-2 Premier League win at Tottenham.
We recently looked at why Buendia has become such an important bridge in Unai Emery’s rebuilt Aston Villa side.
His influence has increased following the summer squad overhaul, with Buendia also taking responsibility for helping Villa’s younger arrivals settle.
The Argentine previously backed Villa’s new generation to become major players for the club.
Villa move to protect Buendia future
Villa were already expected to address Buendia’s contract after his strong 2025/26 campaign.
The latest reports suggest that process is now progressing.
No agreement or new expiry date has yet been confirmed, so talks should not be presented as completed.
Given Buendia’s current form and importance to Emery, however, securing his future would remove a significant contract question before his deal enters its final year.
