Aston Villa suspension tracker: Cards and bans

Aston Villa’s disciplinary record is already worth monitoring as Unai Emery’s side head into the international break.

Villa have collected 10 yellow cards across their opening five Premier League matches, while João Gomes has also served a suspension following his opening-day red card.

No Villa player is currently close to an automatic yellow-card ban, but John McGinn, Matty Cash and Nicolas Jackson lead the squad on two league cautions each.

Here is the latest Aston Villa suspension picture for the 2026/27 season.

StatMuse’s current Aston Villa disciplinary data has McGinn, Cash and Jackson tied as Villa’s most-booked Premier League players.

McGinn picked up his first two cautions against Brighton and Arsenal, while Cash has also reached two after returning from his recent injury.

Jackson’s two bookings are particularly worth watching because the forward is now establishing himself as one of Emery’s regular starters.

How many yellow cards mean a suspension?

Premier League players who accumulate five yellow cards within their club’s first 19 league matches receive an automatic one-match Premier League suspension.

The FA’s official 2026/27 disciplinary guidance confirms that league caution thresholds remain competition-specific.

That means bookings collected in the Champions League or domestic cups do not simply combine with Premier League yellow cards.

After the first threshold, reaching 10 Premier League cautions by the end of the club’s 32nd league match results in a two-match suspension.

Villa therefore have plenty of breathing room at this stage.

However, that can change quickly once the autumn fixture schedule becomes more congested.

João Gomes has already served Villa ban

Gomes is the only Villa player to have served a domestic suspension this season.

The midfielder was sent off during the opening Premier League defeat against Brighton.

That straight red resulted in a three-match domestic ban, ruling him out against Arsenal, Hull City and Nottingham Forest.

Our Villa team-news breakdown following the red card explained how the suspension immediately reduced Emery’s midfield options.

Gomes has now completed that ban and is available again.

McGinn, Cash and Jackson lead yellow-card list

None of Villa’s current leaders are in immediate danger.

McGinn, Cash and Jackson each require another three bookings before reaching the first automatic suspension threshold.

That is still something worth tracking.

McGinn remains an automatic starter and Villa captain, while Jackson has become increasingly important to Emery’s attack.

Cash also returned from injury during the 3-2 victory over Tottenham and is once again competing with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

Losing any of the three during Villa’s congested autumn schedule could create an unwanted selection problem.

Aston Villa’s next Premier League match

Villa return from the international break against Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday 10 October.

Our Aston Villa next-match guide has the full fixture details.

Emery’s side then face a demanding run across the Premier League and Champions League.

That makes disciplinary availability increasingly important.

This page will be updated throughout the 2026/27 season whenever Villa players receive bookings, suspensions or return from bans.
