Aston Villa fans face Boxing Day rail disruption for Leeds

Aston Villa supporters travelling to the Boxing Day match against Leeds United will need alternatives to rail, with no trains scheduled to run in the Midlands.

The Premier League currently lists the Villa Park fixture for Saturday 26 December at 12.30pm GMT.

National Rail’s Christmas travel guidance confirms the Boxing Day service restrictions, alongside a five-day shutdown of train services through Birmingham New Street.

No trains will run to, from or through New Street from Christmas Eve until Monday 28 December inclusive.

Aston Villa Boxing Day travel: What supporters need to know

Network Rail is beginning a £13million programme to replace ageing overhead power equipment at the station.

Its official announcement states that services are due to resume on Tuesday 29 December.

The station building will remain open during the work, but that does not mean trains will operate.

Alternative transport arrangements are still being finalised. National Rail says affected journeys may involve replacement buses or local bus services, with Christmas timetables expected in journey planners from early October.

Supporters should check their specific route once those details appear rather than assume replacement transport will serve the match.

The disruption also matters for fans travelling into Birmingham before Boxing Day or returning home afterwards.

Villa’s wider festive programme is available through our fixtures and results guide. Match arrangements and transport timetables should both be checked again before travel.
