Aston Villa’s Wan-Bissaka earns praise as DR Congo win again

Aston Villa defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka earned praise from Congolese media as DR Congo maintained their perfect start to Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

The Leopards beat Zimbabwe 2–1 in Harare on Monday, following their opening victory over Equatorial Guinea.

Congolese outlet Leopard Leader awarded Wan-Bissaka 7/10 in its player ratings, praising his defensive work on his side of the pitch.

Yoane Wissa opened the scoring after 30 minutes before setting up Samuel Moutoussamy for the visitors’ second shortly before half-time.

Marshall Munetsi reduced the deficit in stoppage time, but DR Congo held on to make it six points from their opening two Group E fixtures.

As Sports.fr reported, Wissa contributed a goal and an assist for the second successive qualifying victory.

Wan-Bissaka had already completed the opening win over Equatorial Guinea, giving him further competitive action during the international break.

Villa’s right-back competition continues

Wan-Bissaka started Villa’s games against Club Brugge, Coventry City and Tottenham before Matty Cash replaced him at half-time in north London.

Cash has also been involved for Poland during this window.

The positive assessment of Wan-Bissaka’s Zimbabwe display adds encouragement ahead of his return to club football, although Emery’s selection will depend on how both defenders fit Villa’s next assignment.
