Aston Villa opponents Sevilla handed injury boost as Kike Salas returns before Emery reunion

Aston Villa’s opponents Sevilla have welcomed Kike Salas back to group training ahead of Friday’s Antonio Puerta Trophy friendly.

The defender resumed normal work with his teammates on Tuesday after a right-knee problem, giving Sevilla a potential additional option for Unai Emery’s return to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

According to Sevilla’s official injury update, Salas suffered the setback against Deportivo de La Coruña and subsequently missed their meeting with Barcelona.

Sevilla vs Aston Villa team news: Salas back, Vargas progressing

Sevilla also reported that Ruben Vargas completed part of the session with the group as he continued his rehabilitation programme.

The two updates reflect different stages of recovery. Salas returned to normal group work, while Vargas’s involvement remained partial.

Neither update confirms a place in Friday’s starting XI or matchday squad.

Sevilla’s Wednesday training report again referenced their returns as Luis García Plaza’s players continued preparations for Villa.

For Emery, the friendly offers another opportunity to assess his available squad before competitive football resumes. Our examination of Villa’s selection questions for the Sevilla trip looks at the players who could benefit from those minutes.

Salas’s progress adds a concrete development to the opposition team news, although the extent of his involvement will depend on Sevilla’s selection.

Friday’s match kicks off at 7.30pm BST. Our Sevilla vs Aston Villa viewing guide contains the latest broadcast information and ticket details.
