Aston Villa handed double boost as Torres and Madjo return

Aston Villa received a double fitness boost as Pau Torres and Brian Madjo returned to action in Friday’s 3–1 friendly victory over Sevilla.

Both players came on at half-time at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, taking another step forward ahead of the Premier League meeting with Brentford.

FotMob’s match log records Torres replacing Tyrone Mings and Madjo coming on for Tammy Abraham.

Aston Villa injury news brings progress for returning pair

Their involvement follows the return to group training reported during Villa’s camp in Spain.

Torres has been recovering from the hamstring injury sustained against Nottingham Forest. Madjo had also been working towards a return during the international break.

Both were initially named among the substitutes against Sevilla. Their second-half appearances move the story beyond squad selection, giving Unai Emery an opportunity to assess them in a match.

Brentford gives Emery his next selection decision

Villa host Brentford on Saturday, October 10, leaving another week between the friendly and their return to competitive football.

Torres’ availability would strengthen Emery’s defensive options, while Madjo provides another alternative in attack.

The next question is whether either player can build towards a starting role. Friday’s involvement establishes their return to action, although their readiness for a full Premier League match remains a separate assessment.

Leon Goretzka, who also resumed training in Spain, was absent from Friday’s matchday squad. His next step remains unconfirmed.
