Aston Villa hand Garnacho start as Torres returns to bench

Aston Villa have named Alejandro Garnacho and Tammy Abraham in their starting XI against Sevilla, with Pau Torres and Brian Madjo among the substitutes.

Tyrone Mings captains Unai Emery’s side for Friday’s Antonio Puerta Trophy friendly. Marco Bizot starts in goal, while Taylor Harwood-Bellis, George Hemmings and Fortes also feature.

The confirmed team sheet gives Garnacho an opportunity to impress after his limited competitive involvement during the opening weeks of his Villa loan.

Aston Villa XI vs Sevilla confirmed

Starting XI: Bizot; Harwood-Bellis, Mings (captain), Kamara, Buendía, Garnacho, Abraham, Bogarde, Gomes, Hemmings, Fortes.

Substitutes: Wright, Asemota, Barkley, Pau Torres, Wan-Bissaka, Madjo, Alysson, Mulley, Carroll, Jenner, Bloomfield, Burgess.

Players are listed as shown on the team sheet rather than in a confirmed formation.

Torres and Madjo take another step towards returns

Torres and Madjo’s inclusion follows their return to training during Villa’s camp in Spain.

Both are available from the bench, although their selection does not establish how many minutes they will play.

Leon Goretzka, who also resumed training, is not named in the matchday squad. The graphic provides no explanation for his absence.

For Garnacho, the starting opportunity follows recent scrutiny of his limited Villa minutes.

Emery also has experienced midfield options in Kamara and Gomes as he assesses his available players before competitive football resumes.

Sevilla’s official match preview confirms a 7.30pm BST kick-off at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
