Aston Villa boss Sørensen admits role uncertainty as he shares blame for poor start

Aston Villa Women interim head coach Brian Sørensen says he does not know how long he will remain in charge, while accepting his share of responsibility for the team’s difficult start.

Sørensen stepped in following Natalia Arroyo’s dismissal and now prepares for Sunday’s Women’s Super League meeting with Crystal Palace.

Speaking before that fixture, in comments reported by WSL Full-Time, he said:

“I don’t know how long I’m the interim [head coach]”

His immediate priority is improving performances and bringing the squad together, rather than setting out a timetable for his own position.

Sørensen accepts share of Aston Villa responsibility

The interim boss expressed sadness at Arroyo’s departure and rejected the idea that Villa’s problems belonged to one individual.

“It’s not a one person issue, it’s a collective.”

He included himself, the players and the remaining staff in that responsibility, while explaining that his own approach would differ from his predecessor’s.

Villa have already taken an encouraging first step under him, beating Newcastle United 3-1 in the Subway Players Cup.

Sørensen praised that winning performance, with Lucia Kendall’s late double settling the contest.

Crystal Palace provide next test

Sunday brings the chance to secure Villa’s first league victory of the campaign and build on Wednesday’s cup result.

Palace visit Villa Park for a 2pm BST kick-off. Our Aston Villa Women vs Crystal Palace guide covers the viewing and matchday details.
