Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf says frustration with Sweden’s draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina contributed to his decision not to speak to reporters afterwards.
The Sweden captain addressed the incident at Sunday’s press conference before the trip to Romania, explaining that he also had not heard journalists calling for him.
Speaking in comments published by Fotbollskanalen, Lindelöf said, in translation: “I was very frustrated, I wanted to win the match.”
He felt Sweden’s performance deserved victory rather than the 1-1 draw they took from Zenica.
Lindelöf frustrated by refereeing decision
Lindelöf also criticised the refereeing and acknowledged that the free-kick leading to Bosnia’s equaliser had contributed to his disappointment.
Reflecting on his decision to walk past reporters, he suggested that speaking immediately afterwards might have resulted in comments he would regret.
His explanation follows a more positive response earlier in the international break, when Swedish coverage praised Lindelöf’s leadership against Poland.
At club level, Lindelöf started alongside Tyrone Mings in Villa’s 3-2 victory at Tottenham before joining up with Sweden.
Our assessment of his growing role under Unai Emery examined his importance during Pau Torres’s absence.
Sweden face Romania on Monday before attention returns to Villa’s Premier League meeting with Brentford on Saturday.
