Zion Suzuki says Unai Emery’s style of football has helped him settle at Aston Villa, although he is still adjusting to the speed and intensity of the Premier League.
Speaking after Japan’s 2-1 friendly victory over New Zealand on Monday, the goalkeeper gave a positive assessment of his early months at Villa Park.
“I like the environment, I like the way we play, the way the manager plays so I’m very comfortable,” Suzuki told AFP, in an interview published by Yahoo Sport.
Suzuki identifies next step at Aston Villa
The summer arrival from Parma acknowledged that adapting to English football remains a challenge, with the faster pace helping him identify areas of his game to improve.
Suzuki also believes his Premier League and World Cup experience has left him better equipped to help Japan challenge for January’s Asian Cup.
That tournament creates a separate planning issue for Villa, with his potential absence covered in our Suzuki Asian Cup guide.
His immediate club focus will turn to Villa’s home match against Brentford on Saturday, which kicks off at 3pm BST.
Emery’s side resume their league campaign after beating Tottenham 3-2 before the international break, with Suzuki looking to build on his encouraging start.
