Brian Madjo at Aston Villa
Brian Madjo is one of Aston Villa’s most exciting young attacking prospects after joining the club from Metz in January 2026.
The forward’s first months at Villa were unusually complicated.
FIFA initially prevented Villa from registering Madjo because of regulations surrounding international transfers involving players under the age of 18.
Villa challenged that decision through the Court of Arbitration for Sport and eventually won their appeal, finally clearing Madjo to play competitive football.
We covered the breakthrough when Aston Villa finally won their seven-month registration battle for Brian Madjo.
Unai Emery wasted little time giving the teenager his opportunity.
Madjo started Aston Villa’s UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain and produced an extraordinary competitive debut.
He scored Villa’s equaliser and became the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history at 17 years and 212 days.
The night established Madjo as one of the most intriguing young players in Emery’s squad.
However, an injury suffered during the same match subsequently disrupted his start to the domestic season and delayed his Premier League involvement.
Brian Madjo’s Aston Villa breakthrough
Madjo had already impressed Emery before his competitive debut.
He scored four times during Villa’s pre-season programme and regularly trained around the senior first-team squad.
His Super Cup performance then demonstrated that Emery was willing to trust him on one of the biggest stages available.
John McGinn was among those impressed by the youngster’s rapid development, with the Villa captain making a major prediction about Madjo following his breakthrough against PSG.
Madjo is eligible to feature in the Premier League without occupying one of Villa’s 25 senior squad places.
He is included among the club’s Under-21 players, as explained in our full Aston Villa Premier League squad guide for 2026/27.
That gives Emery flexibility to involve him once he is fully available.
What position does Brian Madjo play?
Madjo is primarily a centre-forward.
At 193cm, he offers significant physical presence for a player still early in his senior career, but his game is not based solely on size.
He is capable of attacking space, carrying the ball and contributing inside the penalty area.
Those qualities were already evident during pre-season before his historic Super Cup goal accelerated his rise into the first-team picture.
Madjo’s emergence also gives Emery another long-term attacking option following the major changes to Villa’s forward line during the summer of 2026.
Brian Madjo’s career before Aston Villa
Madjo was born in Enfield before spending much of his childhood in Luxembourg.
He played youth football for Marisca Mersch and Racing Union before joining Metz’s academy.
The forward signed his first professional contract with the French club in 2025 and made his Ligue 1 debut against Strasbourg aged just 16.
That appearance made him the youngest player to represent Metz in Ligue 1.
Madjo made five senior league appearances in France before Aston Villa moved to secure his signature.
His transfer initially became dominated by the registration dispute, but Villa’s successful CAS appeal eventually allowed his development on the pitch to take centre stage.
Brian Madjo’s role in the Aston Villa squad
Madjo remains one of the youngest players available to Emery, so his first-team opportunities are likely to be managed carefully.
His Super Cup start nevertheless demonstrated that Villa regard him as more than simply an academy player.
Once fully available, he can provide competition across Emery’s attacking options while continuing his development around the senior squad.
Madjo’s appearances, minutes, goals and latest developments will continue to be tracked on this page throughout the 2026/27 season.
