Aston Villa are preparing a bid of £15million for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, according to the Daily Star
Villa boss Tim Sherwood has identified Austin as his main target this summer with the possibility of losing their star striker Christian Benteke. The manager is aiming to have Austin lead the Villa revolution and be the club’s first paramount signing.
A host of top clubs from around Europe are looking to sign the club’s top goalscorer who is valued at £30million. Sherwood is keen on keeping Benteke at the club, but it seems they are resigned to losing him. The Lions are capable of doubling Austin’s £28,000 a week wages without wrecking Villa’s pay structure.
Newcastle are also interested in signing Austin, but the club’s shaky status is unlikely to appeal the goalscorer. He would prefer staying in the south and Villa seems a realistic target for the 25-year old. The only stumbling block is QPR’s asking price of £20million that the Villains would struggle to meet. The London club may face a £58m fine by the Football League over failure to comply with financial fair play rules.
The 17-goal Austin has been named in Roy Hodgson’s squad for England’s games against Ireland and Slovenia. This will mark his first England call-up.
