Vangelis Pavlidis still dreams of playing in the Premier League, according to a Portuguese report, following Aston Villa’s reported interest during the summer.
However, the Benfica striker would only leave with his club’s approval, rather than force through a transfer.
A Bola reports that English football remains Pavlidis’ preferred destination for a future career move, with any agreement needing to benefit both the player and Benfica.
Marco Silva made keeping Pavlidis a priority
The report explains that Marco Silva identified the Greek forward as a player he wanted to retain when discussing Benfica’s squad plans.
Sport Witness’s account of the Portuguese report names Villa and Tottenham among the clubs that made summer approaches.
That provides context for the Premier League links, but does not establish that Villa have reopened negotiations or intend to bid in January.
Benfica’s determination to keep Pavlidis remains a significant part of the story.
Aston Villa’s attacking options have changed
Villa’s summer recruitment also changes how supporters should assess the link.
Nicolas Jackson, Tammy Abraham and Brian Madjo give Unai Emery options through the middle, with Madjo returning to action against Sevilla.
Another striker would therefore need a clear place in Villa’s plans.
The club have also featured in reports linking them with Gonzalo García, but interest alone does not establish an active pursuit.
For now, the Pavlidis development concerns his reported preference for England and Benfica’s control over any departure. It is not evidence of a transfer breakthrough.
