Aston Villa are in talks with French Ligue 1 side, Stade de Reims about bringing striker, Gaetan Charbonnier to Villa Park. Bein Sport’s Smail Bouabella has said that the 26-year old is also in advanced talks with Bundesliga sides, Hamburg, and FSV Mainz about a move.

Charbonnier began his career at Stade Olympique Chatellerault before signing for PSG’s B team in 2008 where he spent one year scoring a respectable 12 times in 28 appearances. His form earnt him a move to Angers in 2009 where he played until 2013 finding the net 23 times in 90 games in the French second division.

Most recently before his move to Reims in 2013, Montpellier brought in the 6ft1 target man to fill the gap left by Oliver Giroud, but he struggled in his one season only scoring four times in 26 games.

Since joining Reims in 2013 Charbonnier has featured 65 times – returning with 12 goals.

Aston Villa have struggled in front of goal so far this season with Rudy Gestede only delivering in his debut so far. A move for Charbonnier is not an inspiring one to the fans, but could he sign and become a vital player?
