Nottingham Forest are reportedly lining up a January move for out of favour Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner as Dougie Freedman looks to strengthen his midfield options with the second half of the season in mind.
There has been a lot of talk surrounding Gardner’s future at Villa Park and along with the strong rumours of a move away to a Championship club, the links with Forest are unsurprising.

Gardner has been hugely restricted of playing time in recent years due to injury, one of which has prevented him from featuring for Remi Garde’s Villa side for the whole season, as they find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League.
A move to the City Ground would not be an unfamiliar one for the 23-year-old, as he spent last season on loan at Forest in a successful spell at the club. The Englishman bagged four goals in just 18 appearances during his time at Forest; an impressive record for a midfielder.
As Forest look to press on with their promotion hopes this season, bolstering the midfield with a player of Gardner’s quality would certainly be a smart move, as well as it being beneficial for Villa in giving him some valuable game time.
Forest are currently under a transfer embargo it has to be remembered.
