Coventry City have completed a permanent deal for former-England international Joe Cole after the midfielder impressed on his loan spell at the Ricoh Arena.
With the League One side pushing for promotion this season, Cole’s experience and flair has been crucial to The Sky Blues so far and boss Tony Mowbray is hopeful of securing a deal for the 34-year-old.
Cole’s contract at Villa ran out in the summer and the Premier League strugglers have let him move on a free to the Sky Blues.
Mowbray confirmed that Cole would have needed to take a pay cut to join his side on a permanent basis.
There’s no way we could pay similar sorts of salary levels so they’ll have discussions with their parent clubs and after that we need to have discussions with their advisors. So there’s lots of stuff to be talked about.
Cole made just 12 appearances for Villa since joining from West Ham in 2014.
