Aston Villa will have to challenge fellow relegated sides Newcastle United and Norwich City if they want to sign Fulham star striker, Ross McCormack who has a £12-million clause put on him by the Cottagers.
Simon Jones at the Mail Online reports how the Scottish international is a key target for Villa as they look to find proven fire-power to seal a quick return to the Premier League with McCormack standing out having scored 23 goals in a forgetful season for Fulham.
The former Cardiff City joined Fulham in 2014 from Leeds United for £11-million in a move which many thought could see the London side bounce back to the Premier League. The transfer has since caused trouble for Leeds United owner, Massimo Cellino who was fined last week for breaching regulations in relation to agent payments.
McCormack began his career at Rangers in 2002 before moving to Cardiff in 2008 via Motherwell along the way. His goalscoring record in his first season at the Bluebirds was phenomenal as he scored 18 times. The next two seasons were not as fruitful though as he only found the net on a handful of occasions between Cardiff and Leeds.
Since then though the Scot hasn’t really looked back.
Would we consider signings when the new owner isn’t in yet? – Matt Lynch
It is right to think why would Aston Villa be looking at players when the new owner isn’t in yet, the answer is simple, the club still has to function even if the takeover isn’t complete yet.
A move for Ross McCormack would be a huge statement of intent by the Midlands side. You have to wonder if the new owner will splash that sort of money on one player. You’d hope so.
