Di Matteo chases West Brom shotstopper

Aston Villa could raid local rivals West Bromwich Albion for goalkeeper Boaz Myhill according to reports.

The Express and Star report that new manager Roberto Di Matteo is keen to bring the experienced 33-year-old to Villa Park.

Boaz Myhill who came through Aston Villa’s youth academy made 23 appearances in the league for the Baggies last season with Ben Foster out injured. Foster admitted that Myhill ‘didn’t deserve’ to be dropped upon his return from injury either.

The move wouldn’t come as too much of a shock for Aston Villa fans with Brad Guzan’s future having a question mark over it and the club having a constant issue with goalkeepers last season.

Starting his career at Villa in 2000 he went out on loan five times before leaving permanently in 2003 for Hull City.

The former Welsh international was at the KC Stadium until 2010 where he joined West Brom under Roberto Di Matteo.

Since joining the Baggies he has made 74 appearances whilst also having a loan spell at Birmingham City.
