Aston Villa have joined the likes of Celtic, Preston North End and Birmingham City in the race to sign the Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor according to reports.

The Bristol Post report that Villa are looking at the forward who scored 28 times last season in all competitions. He is out of contract this summer at the Memorial Stadium with Rovers offering him a new contract which he is yet to agree to.

The Villans boss Roberto Di Matteo is said to be in the market for a striker this summer and Taylor could be an option for him as he looks to rebuild a broken and goal shy side.

The 26-year-old joined Rovers from Forest Green Rovers in 2014 and has since gone on to score 47 times in 94 games and help them from the National League to League One. He was the highest goalscorer in League Two last season with 27 league goals.

Bristol Rovers chairman Steve Hamer said that he is expected a decision on Taylor’s future soon.
