Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo is to look elsewhere for a creative outlet after dropping his interest in Norwich City winger Robbie Brady, who is being touted for a move back to the Premier League with Leicester City, Southampton or West Bromwich Albion.
The Birmingham Mail report how the Italian manager has recognised the need for a set piece specialist who can create chances from free kicks and corners. It’s said with the future of Jordan Veretout still up in the air Di Matteo is keen to add to his options in the creative area of midfield.
Last season the Villans struggled generally in front of goal but failed to actually score once from a free kick. Di Matteo has a list of a number of creative players who are based on the continent and in England.
Villa are looking to complete all the business necessary before their opening game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, 7, August.
So far they have made one signing already this summer with the capturing of Bournemouth defender Tommy Elphick.
