Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo is eyeing up a move for the Manchester United defender Paddy McNair according to a report.
The Mirror report that the Villans see McNair as a possible loan target to add further depth to their defence ahead of the start of the Championship season.
McNair rose to prominence under Louis Van Gaal and made 16 appearances in his first senior season at the Red Devils, but only mustered eight appearances last season with injuries restricting him.
Despite the restrictions, last season McNair impressed for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016 and could well be let go by new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
The news comes as Ciaran Clark edges closer to the exit door at Villa Park with Newcastle United ready to complete a move for the Republic of Ireland international for a believed fee of £5 million.
Do you think McNair could be a good option for Aston Villa?
