According to the Mirror, Aston Villa are planning a £4 million pound move for QPR keeper Alex Smithies.
Bruce is desperate for a new keeper to boost his squad and it is believed that Smithies is well and truly on his radar.
Smithies has been in fantastic form for QPR this season, and these performances have naturally attracted the attention of other clubs. In fact, Smithies, due to a string of fine saves, was the main reason Villa only beat QPR 1-0 in their last match. As a result of this form, the London based club face an immense battle to keep hold of him this January transfer window.
Bruce feels that a top keeper could help them reach the play-offs and he wants to shake-up the squad in January by adding his own personal touch to it.
Bruce could meet any QPR demand as he has quite a lot of money to spend in January (should he wish to do so) since Xia has provided him with a load of funds to ensure that Villa get promoted at the first time of asking.
