The Mirror are reporting that Aston Villa are prepared to sell Jordan Ayew so that they can fund a deal for Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes.
Villa, who are currently 10 points off of a play-off position, desperately need some strong reinforcements this January if they are to get anywhere close to challenging for a top 6 play-off place come the end of the season.
Up front is one such position where some reinforcements are needed. Ross McCormack has been woefully out of form for most of the season, Agbonlahor has never been a prolific goalscorer and Gestede was considered surplus to requirements and sold to Middlesbrough. The only senior striker who looks capable of scoring goals is Kodjia, and, thanks to the AFCON, he could be unavailable until early February.
Jordan Rhodes is out of favour at the Riverside Stadium and Villa are supposedly interested. However, Middlesbrough are not budging from their £10 million asking price, and Villa are reluctant to pay that at the moment. Although, it has been mentioned that Bruce might look to sell Ayew in order to fund a move for Rhodes.
Ayew, who has mostly been shoved out on the left wing, has scored 2 goals and provided 4 assists this season and is supposedly attracting attention from a Chinese club.
By letting Ayew go, Bruce could use the money to bring in a proven Championship goalscorer to play alongside Kodjia and that, along with a couple of decent midfield signings, could be the difference between another season in the Championship or a return to the Premier League.
