Sunderland chase Aston Villa target Sam Johnstone
Following the £30m agreement between Everton and Sunderland for young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford the Black Cats are already stepping up their hunt for a new number one according to the Birmingham Mail.
Sam Johnstone spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park impressing the Claret and Blue faithful, but now it seems Sunderland are going to do everything to bring the Manchester United keeper to the Stadium of Light.
Johnstone is a very good shot stopper similar attributes to those of Pickford so it would be the perfect match for Sunderland, aged 24 very young for a goalkeeper he still has a lot to learn and improve his overall game.
However, with both clubs in the Championship, this would be a perfect place for him to establish himself as a first choice with not many opportunities available at Manchester United due to the form of David De Gea.
With nine loan spells during his career, it is time to play consistent first team football at one of the two biggest clubs in English footballing history. He has a very good pedigree also representing England at under 19 and 21 level.
His Manchester United contract was extended until 2018 so both clubs will have to pay over the odds to sign him.
