Versatile Icelandic midfielder Birkir Bjarnason’s agent Jim Solabakken has stated that the player would like a return to Italy.
When discussing his client’s future, Solabakken told Tutto Mercato Web that despite his wishes, he remains focused on Villa for the time being.
Birkir would like to return to Serie A, he was very good in Italy and would like to play again in the Italian league, but he is totally focused on Villa. The club is fighting to get back in the Premier League and his only thought is to do well with the club’s shirt. We’ll see what happens.
Bjarnason signed for Villa last January from FC Basel for a reported £2.5 million. He made 42 appearances and scored 14 goals during his time at the Swiss giants.
He was part of Iceland’s fantastic Euro 2016 campaign where he made history as he scored the country’s first goal at a major tournament as Iceland drew 1-1 in a group match to eventual winners Portugal.
Bjarnason hasn’t played much since making the move to Villa Park, playing just nine times for Villa this season.
When he first joined he made only a handful of appearances at left back but has mostly been played in a midfield role since then.
Making most of his appearances from the bench, game time at Villa has been hard to come by for Bjarnason as many of Villa’s senior midfielders are above him in the pecking order.
