Making his first competitive start for the Three Lions in the Nations League, Grealish produced a man of the match performance against Roberto Martinez’s side.
It proved not to be England’s night but the 25-year-old’s showing has sparked plenty of reaction.
Southgate, who saw his side defeated and fail to qualify for the Nations League finals, spoke after the game and touched on the performance of the Birmingham born attacking midfielder, telling Sky Sports:
I thought Jack had an absolutely outstanding game. What I saw that I knew I would see was someone with the bravery to play. He took the ball in tight areas, his techniques were good, he took players out of the game.
We knew he would buy a lot of free-kicks, which, of course, he did. I just thought he was outstanding. He should be absolutely delighted with the way that he played.
