PSG eye Dele Alli amid Villa fans’ clamour for England star

If Aston Villa couldn’t get a permanent deal done for Ross Barkley, Dele Alli was suggested as an ambitious alternative by Read Aston Villa and plenty of Villa supporters.

Indeed, the Midlands club tried to sign him in 2015 before Tottenham eventually procured his signature.

The 24-year-old Spurs midfielder is out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season and may jump at the chance of first team football elsewhere, but Paris Saint-Germain entering the transfer race for him (The Telegraph) likely kills any hope of Villa making gains if they did want him this month.

Dele has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and supplying one assist. He has racked up only 472 minutes of playing time, however, as Mourinho has preferred Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Moussa Sissoko and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield.

Dele was praised by many Spurs supporters for his performance in Tottenham’s FA Cup win over Marine on Sunday and Mourinho has insisted that the England international will be in his plans this season, but might PSG’s rumoured interest lure him away from north London?

Barkley struggled for game-time at Chelsea but has impressed on loan at Villa this season, so it had been suggested that Dele could follow in his footsteps by sealing a redemptive loan move to Villa Park.

Although Villa tried to sign the 24-year-old in the past, it doesn’t appear that they’ll return this month. They would likely be powerless to stop his former manager Mauricio Pochettino luring him to PSG too, so any Villa fans who dreamt of Dele pulling on the claret and blue are set to be disappointed.
