Aston Villa confirmed the signing of Ashley Young on Thursday and unsurprisingly his name trended on social media. Supporters haven’t been able to stop talking about the 35-year-old ever since a potential return was rumoured and now most are delighted he’s back at Villa Park.
Young initially left Villa for Manchester United in 2011 and went on to make 261 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals with 43 assists. He won one Premier League title, one Europa League crown, one FA Cup and one League Cup.
The 35-year-old scored seven goals in 39 caps for England, playing in one World Cup and one European Championships. He spent nine years at Old Trafford before Inter Milan came calling and enjoyed a successful 18 months under Antonio Conte that saw him win the Serie A title.
Young made 59 appearances for Inter, scoring five goals with nine assists, before returning to Villa this summer. He returns with the Claret and Blues in a good place under Dean Smith, having finished 11th in the Premier League while boasting a more resolute defence than the previous season.
