Twitter talk as Aston Villa enter discussions with Chelsea over Tammy Abraham

Aston Villa have already signed Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City and Ashley Young from Inter Milan, but Dean Smith isn’t done there. The Midlands outfit are still on the hunt for a central midfielder and Sky Sports, Sport Italia and Calciomercato’s Rudy Galetti says Tammy Abraham is on their radar.

Villa have reportedly entered talks with Chelsea and are preparing an offer of €45m (£38.8m). Abraham has an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge after losing his place in the side under Thomas Tuchel, starting just 12 Premier League games last season. Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud have been preferred in attack, so the 23-year-old could be on his way.

Abraham impressed during a loan spell at Villa in 2018/19, scoring 26 goals and making three assists in 40 games as they earned promotion to the Premier League. Villa would welcome the England international back with open arms and there’s a lot of buzz among fans on social media, but it remains to be seen if Abraham is open to renewing acquaintances.

Chelsea won the Champions League last season while Aston Villa finished in mid-table in the Premier League, so he might consider the move a backwards step. Given the rise of Jack Grealish, however, Abraham should view Villa Park the perfect place to turn his career around. It would be a very popular switch among fans given the positive reaction so far.
