Bertrand Traore made a brief appearance from the bench in Aston Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and posted about the loss on his Instagram account.
The 26-year-old said he was disappointed with the result and felt Villa could have done better in North London. He also vowed to improve when Wolverhampton Wanderers come to Villa Park after the international break.
Traore will now join up with the Burkina Faso national team ahead of their World Cup qualifier double-header with Djibouti. The former Olympique Lyonnais forward hasn’t played a lot of football for Villa this season but could get significant minutes on international duty.
Traore has made five appearances in all competitions for the Villans, amassing only 117 minutes of football. Dean Smith preferred Anwar El Ghazi and Emiliano Buendia earlier in the season but has switched to a wing-back system that has meant no space for Traore and co.
The 26-year-old had 18 minutes from the bench in the 3-2 defeat to Watford (August 14), was left of the matchday squad in the 2-0 win over Newcastle (August 21) and 1-1 draw with Brentford (August 28), had 21 minutes from the bench in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea (September 11), had four minutes from the bench in the 3-0 win over Everton (September 18), was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over Manchester United (September 25) and had 10 minutes against Tottenham (October 3).
